About Me

April Wang is a senior attending Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, California. She is pursuing a future in art and graphic design, and will be attending the University of Southern Caloifornia for a BFA in Art and Design in Spring 2025 In her free time, April likes to create gifts for friends and listen to new K-pop groups. She also has a list of books to read that is growing longer by the day no matter how fast she reads.

California state summer school of arts (CSSSA)

  • four-week summer art program at CalArts

  • attended in 2022 and 2023, in the Visual Arts department

  • majored in Digital Media (2022) and double majored in Sculpture and Printmaking (2023)

  • created ~15 pieces

  • Time commitment: 8-5 classes, Mon-Sat, and 3hrs/day of open studio

MVHS Speech Team

  • member of Monta Vista High School Speech Team

  • active from 2017-2024 (3 years in middle school partner club)

  • attend weekly 3hr practices + 1.5hrs volunteering as teacher for middle school club

  • compete at one or two-day tournaments at state and national levels

  • ranked #23 in California for Humorous Interpretation (as of 2023-2024 season)

  • served as Interpretation Branch Head and VP of PR (see LEADERSHIP page)

  • Time commitment: 6hrs/week and ~8 tournaments/year

public speaking class teacher

  • taught free public speaking classes for the nonprofit Love Thy Neighbor

  • originally a three-week summer program in 2020; due to popular demand, we also hosted a two-day workshop and a second run in 2021

  • 1.5hr classes, 3 times/week

  • active from 2020-2021

  • co-created and taught with sister

  • completely self-developed curriculum, activities homework, and schedule

  • Time commitment: 20hrs/week

  • served as Copy Editor and Graphics Editor (see leadership for details)

  • wrote 20+ articles in Opinion, Arts and Entertainment, Features, and News

  • took pictures and reported on social media about local community events

  • multiple state and national level awards (see AWARDS page)

  • Time commitment: 5hrs/week and two production nights (4-8pm) per issue

Northwestern Creative Writing masterclass CTD

  • three week online summer program

  • learned creative writing theory and participated in peer review sessions

  • created ~8 works, compiled into chapbook

  • Time commitment: 4-5hrs/day
